daniel norgren & the revving of buck's engine
experiencing a daniel norgren gig is something special. when i saw him on friday evening, it was an eye-opener. and i've seen him play before. but until tonight, it felt like i haven't seen any shows at all between now and the first time i saw him play back at the start of march in utrecht (this is not true of course... i did actually discover a new favourite dutch band in mid march). but nonetheless, friday's gig was something to reconfirm my faith in live music, not that i ever lost it.
following my discovery of this swedish singer-songwriter a few months back, i picked up his new album buck (named after his car by all accounts) at the nordic delight festival and, boy, was excited to see him play again. i can't sum up the evening in words. not only were our ears delighted with the sounds of some new tracks (one of which would make a grown man weep, or at least some of us girls), we were also treated to the first-ever live performance (at a gig, on stage) of daniel on piano whilst anders accompanied him on double bass with the sweetest of backing vocals. i hope these photos capture an essence of their performance during this magical show (these shots also feature on the belmont bookings blog).
i wanted to share them all again here, as a memento of the night and to remind me not to just sit back and end up all putting my tomorrows behind.
if all that wasn't enough to entice you along to one of daniel's upcoming shows, then check out this recent video filmed last week in cologne by the wonderful cardinal sessions.
then you can look forward to his new dates and get yourself to see him play live. it is a must.
and after all that is said and done, you can buy his album. i promise you, it will find a very warm place in your heart.
